So Fresh Friday: Does it Get the Axe?

I’m debating on whether or not to keep So Fresh Friday.  I don’t want to do it every week, but I do like to highlight stuff I like on the internets.  Thoughts?  Once a month?  Maybe?

I laughed pretty hard at this.  I think Maya Rudolph does a great Beyonce, and whoever this guy is sounds just like Jay-Z.

I, like you, am addicted to Pinterest.  Sometimes, though, I look at some of the things on there and think “There’s no way that’s a good idea.”  Like those huge paper pom poms that people hang in nurseries?  Adorable, and really cute for parties, but I feel like it would just be a terrible, terrible dust trap.  I’ve put a few things I’ve pinned to the test.  I’m not adding pictures, simply because I want to make sure that the re-pin goes to the original photo on the original site.

1) Ana White Pottery Barn Knock Off Tutorial.  I pinned this cubby.  I was going to build it with Angie when she came up to visit, but because all of the tools I have consist of a pink hammer and a cordless drill, she surprised me buy building one.  It’s currently attached to the wall next to the front door.  (More pictures on this to come.)

2) Tub and Shower Magic Recipe.  I loooove a clean house.  And I loooove a clean tub.  Scouring it out when I’m 8 months pregnant is a little difficult, but then I saw this recipe on Pinterest and I had to try it.  I heated up my vinegar and mixed it with blue Dawn.  Spray tub like crazy, then wipe soap scum off.  Seriously?  Magical!  My only mistake was not buying the concentrated Dawn, which acts more like a gel.  If you do this… get the concentrated kind.

3) That Popular “We Do” Sign.  I keep seeing the “We do loud.  We do hugs.” sign on Pinterest.  And then I saw this sign, which I liked a little better.  I needed something to fill a big frame on my photo wall, and since I haven’t found anything yet.. I wrote this out in some chicken scratch handwriting and put it on the wall.  I swapped a few lines out.  “We give,” among a couple other ones.  I like it until I find something different.  :)

How about you?  Have you pinned anything and tried it?  Link me, boo.

don’t give it the axe! i like so fresh friday. even if it is only occasionally. and i must try this magic scrub you speak of! and those paper poms in a nursery? my thoughts exactly! that would trap SO much dust. they would be disgusting within a month, before the baby even slept in his own crib!

Thanks, Ingrid! Yes, it really works.. if I had gotten the concentrated Dawn, it would have held to the sides of the tub. I had to use a little scrub powder to get the corners. When this bottle runs out, I’ll get the gel.

They are so pretty… great for a baby shower, maybe? But thinking about all of those crevices makes me a little sneezy. Maybe there’s a way to clean them regularly?

the best way to clean those poms would be to throw them away could you imagine trying to vacuum them? it would be comical. they would get all shredded up and dust would be flying. poms for baby shower: yes, poms for baby nursery: no.

i need to dig out the dawn i bought for a pinterest laundry recipe and try the shower cleaner you made. btw, have you seen that grapefruit + salt idea on pinterest too? supposedly you cut a grapefruit in half, salt it, and scrub your shower and tub and it makes it all grapefruity and shiny.

I say no to the axe, but if you want to change the frequency, I’m cool with that. I was dying to know how the Dawn/vinegar thing worked. I would not have known without SFF. So there!

Big paper pom-poms not only scream dust trap, but also big ball o’ flammable. Eep! That would bug me. Irrational, maybe, but I couldn’t do it.

    Happy weekend!

i LOVE fresh friday!! I don’t think you need to be methodical about it though. Just collect a few videos in a file somewhere and pop them into a post once in a while. in fact, you could make a pinterest board with the youtube vids that make you laugh and then use some of them on Fresh Friday posts. yep. do that.

    hi.

I tried that dawn/vinegar tub cleaning combo and OMG, that is the best stuff ever. I must have the concentrated because mine was like a gel, but still came out of the spray bottle. It just sits and there and magically cleans. Smells a little funky, but works fantastically.

My husband was a roofer for a brief period of time, he would come home filthy, and then my shower would be so gross and filled with fiberglass…
Anyway, I learned from Martha Stewart to make a tub scrub with baking soda, a teaspoon of dish soap, enough water to make it a paste, and a couple drops of essential oils to make it smell good. Scrub on, rinse off, gross gone, and costs essentially no money or effort. I just had to share because I love it so much!

Smart! I like the idea of using essential oils, too.

I could get into this! The smell of vinegar bugs me (love pickles, though, go figure *shrug*) but I could handle this version! Thanks, Jeny! (no offense, Roo)

Oh, and don’t give So Fresh Fridays the axe! I like them. They’re like a little informal chat with my girl Roo about what she likes and thinks is funny.

When I started out couponing last year I bought a crap load of Dawn detergent! I love that it’s used in the tub and shower Magic Recipe and I really want to try it! The bathroom is my biggest cleaning foe out of all the rooms. Thanks for the link!

and about SFF… I can take it or leave it. I don’t mind not getting a dose of it every week. Heck, if you just want to throw out a random So Fresh post in the middle of the week, I wouldn’t complain.

Erma, we have to talk. How do you get a ton of Dawn and stuff without making your home look like an episode of Hoarders?

I employ as much storage space as I can in our apartment. I don’t have a huge stockpile or a basement like the people on tv so I keep little stockpiles in various rooms. The dishwashing stuff under sink, extra boxes of cereal on top of the fridge, toiletries under the sink in the bathroom, and laundry & cleaning solutions & paper products & everything else in the linen closet. My supplies are more organized than Aiden’s toys (and that makes me kinda sad).

Awesome pin-finds but all I can think now how upset I am that I can’t view the SNL skit in Sweden :( Boo! Off to try to find it from YouTube, because I must see it now!
