Occasionally I’ll answer some FAQs and pretend like the majority of you want to know the answers to them.  Today is one of those days.

I want to know more about your pregnancy.  Do you get stretch marks?  Have cravings?
- Anonymous, via Formspring

My first two pregnancies gave me stretch marks, so I’m not sure if this baby is showing me the same ones or if I’m getting more.  Sounds super hot, right?  Cravings.. hmm.  For awhile I wanted grapefruit every single day.  And for awhile I was chugging glasses of milk every day.  Now I don’t want any milk but I reeeaally want iced tea.  Mmm, what else about my pregnancy?  I’m generally ouchy and will ask anyone with a fifty foot radius to rub my back.  It’s kind of creepy, actually.

How did you and Jack meet?
- Anonymous, via Formspring

I went to a concert.  Jack was the drummer, and he introduced himself to me after the show.  We shook hands and chatted briefly about Coldplay.  He thought I was underage, so didn’t talk to me for months after that.  :)

Okay, so he's playing guitar in this picture.

What does your work entail outside of writing actual NGN blog posts?
  – Pete, via Facebook

Well, sometimes other companies will compensate me writing on my own blog.  Those posts have a clear disclosure at the end, per FTC regulations.  Occasionally I’ll be asked to write articles for other sites, or write copy for companies (for websites, print material, packaging, etc.), or do some social media/blog consulting, which is basically me playing on Facebook for other companies.

What products/tools do you use in your hair?  Perfume?  Makeup?  Nail polish?
- Allison, via email

Hmm, I’m not too specific about hair products, but I don’t use anything that has sulfates or silicones in it because they don’t work well with my hair.  I heat style once or twice a week, and I’ll use either a flat iron or a large barrel curling iron.  Oh, one product I loooove when I can get my hands on it is Lush Revive & Balance hair moisturizer.  My hair’s pretty thick/dry, so this stuff is a magic potion for my hair.

I’m sort of a creature of habit when it comes to the rest.  I’ve been wearing the same perfume every day for years now – Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue.  I have no idea if that makes me dated, but I love the smell, and so….

I gravitate towards pricier cosmetics, but I justify the cost because I buy so little of it.  Favorites are Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer and blush/lip stain by either Tarte or NARS.  I don’t spend a lot on mascara, because I’m wary of germs and usually toss it every month or so.  I’m a moron at doing my own nails, but I really like Essie nail polish.

And there you have it.

Feel free to answer all of these questions for yourself.  I’d love to know how you met your significant other, how you’re handling this pregnancy, or what products I’d find if I snooped around in your bathroom or makeup bag.  :)

I want to know the rest! When you guys DID start talking what did that look like? Did he just look you up a few months later? Or did you run in the same circle? Go to the same church? I am so curious!

I met my husband at the gas station. Just last night he said, “that was a great store! Where else can you pick up some propel water, gas AND a husband all in the same place?!” Funny times. We’ve been married for 7 years now!

I just finished being pregnant and I am getting back to my normal self (mid pregnancy I had lost all hope that this would ever happen, so I am kind of ecstatic!)I’m back to cleaning on a regular basis, talking to people and doing my hair. It’s good times!

I don’t swear by any products — only a very expensive flat iron. I have tried the cheap, the expensive and everything between and I truly believe that if Ihave a great flat iron I can get away with nothing else, and that’s usually what I do!
This was fun! I like learning things about you — its fun! I want to do it more!

I agree with you on the flat iron. I invested in a pricey one about four years ago. It’s held up wonderfully. :)

I met my husband at freshman orientation at college in 1982. He had a high school sweet heart who ended up getting pregnant, so he married her. He divorced her after two years and we got married in 1988. (There’s a LOT more to the story, but that’s the bare bones.) We’ll be married 24 years on April 15th.

I did not get stretch marks with my three kids, but one showed up later. I don’t understand it. Very weird. I craved Mexican food with my first (when I wasn’t throwing up.)

I use Guarnier products on my hair and Tresemme mousse. The longer I grow it, the better these things seem to work and I rarely use a curling iron or flat iron anymore.

And I’d like to hear more about you and Jack. He’s not drumming in your picture!

    Chelle Reply:

Hi Jeny, I just realized Roo didn’t ask the question (because she emailed me that she didn’t!)

Here is the email I sent her:

I knew the minute I met him that he was “the one.” But we were only 18 and so it didn’t seem like that could be possible.

I left school after two semesters and this was when he got married and had a son with his high school girlfriend. I had sent him a letter and he got it the day before his wedding. It said how much I missed him and how I was still in love with him. But she was pregnant and he wanted to do the right thing, even though they had already broken up. I suspect she got pregnant “on purpose.”

He kept my letter for two years and in November of 1986, he showed up on my doorstep after looking up the address. He was still living with his wife and son. We saw each other for six weeks and he moved out right before New Year’s.

I would never suggest that someone date a married man, but Justin and I just knew we were supposed to be together. It just took us 6 years and a divorce to get it right. But I knew from the minute I saw him. Because I walked up and introduced myself to him and I never do that. And then he showed up in my English class. I just kept running into him, so we “saw” each other off and on the whole time I was at that school, even though he had an “official” girlfriend he was still dating. After I left, I guess he figured it wasn’t meant to be, but his saving that letter says to me that he knew it was. I never felt like I was doing anything wrong because I just knew. And he says he was so scared of the feelings he was having because he was so young, so he tried to ignore them. Obviously, that worked out. Not. LOL

I know, that picture is misleading. :) When he played with this particular band, he was the drummer.. but he wrote a few songs and they played musical chairs so he could play them.

love the reader mailbag edition! i am so nosey.

i do not get stretch marks, although i did get one on my side during my first pregnancy, but not my belly, and i got it like the last week because i was FAT from drinking too many chick-fil-a milkshakes! being tall/long torsoed probably helped me on the belly stretchmarks.

i met my husband at ROTC camp in college and then 3 years later we started chatting again and were married within 3 months of meeting up again <3 married for 7 years now :)

i love CHI silk infusion for my frizzy dry hair and my big round brush and flat iron, luckily i don't have to style my hair more than 3 times a week, so i don't think it gets too damaged. i love chanel chance perfume and MK very hollywood, chanel is sweeter and the MK one smells like my motherland hawaii. and i LOVE MAC makeup/eyemakeup/glosses because they lasts forever, it is worth it.

I met my hubby of 7 1/2 years when we were 13. We dated for a bit, broke up (but still remained friends) for 3 years and then got back together. We got married almost 8 years after that. Seems totally strange, but yet normal that I have known him for more years than I didn’t know him.

Both of my pregnancies were surprisingly awesome. I loved every minute of them. I gained 50+ lbs with both because I ate everything in sight but I didn’t feel huge. I did get stretch marks at the very end with pissed me off because I thought I was in the clear unlike like 2 days before labor. My labors were really easy too. A couple of hours and ABSOLUTELY no drugs. Ok, a Motrin or two but only because my midwife made me take it for preventative measures.

I am totally in love with my CHI flat iron and products. It is wonderful and I will never ever be without it. I also love Benefit cosmetics because they work great with my skin and have fun names and packaging. They are pricey, but I wear very little makeup and find it a deal to pay more for face products and not a lot on eyeliner and eyeliner. I also love Essie nail polish and currently rocking Chinchilly. Check out the color, you will love it.

Welp, my significant other and I met in a bar. Yes, a bar. I thought he was majorly lame, as all he could talk about at the time was his current girlfriends’s large fake boobs. Which was so not impressive. Eventually he must’ve decided flat chicks are the way to go because he broke up with big boobs for no boobs (aka, ME). And there’s way more involved in that story that would take a blog post alone to explain, but flat tits wins is the bottom line.

I don’t know about stretch marks cause I’m not there yet :/ I did find some really amazing miracle tummy/boob oil however that I will be buying the second I have a healthy pregnancy.

If you snoop around my bathroom, you may or may not find things you won’t like. I’m a bare minerals freak, refuse to wear cheap makeup (although I buy cheap mascara because it works the same), and my hair care products cost more than some people spend on clothing. But I don’t care cause it makes my hairs nicey nice. I recently invested in Stila face primer, and Bare Minerals eyelid primer which is seriously a genius product because it made my eyeshadow stay on ALL DAY. And I can never be without eyeliner…..ever. And I also swear by the Shellac manicure. And Oil of Olay face cream. And my organic iLike face wash that is just way to damn expensive but really really really wonderful.

I have no stretch marks from pregnancy, but I do have some inside my thighs from gain and loss throughout my teens/20′s… weird? I think so. I don’t have cravings any different from when I am not pregnant, I think I have more cravings when I am not actually. Ok, so pretty much from these two statements: I am more pregnant-like when I have no human growing in me than when I do.

ALthough my husband and I grew up in the same very small town, knowing who each other was and going to the same high school we didn’t officially meet until 4-ish years after I graduated. (He says that is to his benefit since when he was younger he was such a hooligan and I was such a goodie-goodie.) We met when he was living with a mutual friend and he started stalking me promptly afterwards. (He says I was in love with him right away and just don’t want to admit it…ehhh?) ;)

I am practically a man when it comes to beauty products and couldn’t even tell you one brand that I use on anything. (My husband is more of a woman then I am in this area.)

I met my husband in a coffee shop. He was the bass player in a band. He’s got the most gorgeous hair, I fell in love with it. :) We dated for 4 years before getting married. Then we r-u-n-n-o-f-t to Vegas to get hitched. It was awesome. We just celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary in January.

We’ve got a two year old daughter and I’m pregnant with Peanut now. My current state? Starving. All this talk about Chik-fil-A is not fair. The nearest one is an hour away and the hubs has my car! I can’t drive his, it’s a stick shift. :(
I’m pretty ouchie all the time too. My tailbone was dislocated/broken during delivery of a posterior baby with a giant head, she got stuck. So it hurts all the time. I’m entering the stage where it doesn’t feel good to be touched. Not possible with a two year old who thinks I’m a jungle gym.

Oh, I forgot the beauty/hair question.

If and when I do makeup I use Bare Essentuals. Super sensitive skin, it’s the only kind that doesn’t cause rashes or breakouts.

Hair, well…it’s ridiculous. It’s gotten super curly since my last baby. It was just wavy before. I kind of look like I have the late 80′s early 90s French Poodle perm. Remember that look? Struggling to find a product that works without having to style it every day.

2 tiny stretch marks from all three pregnancies. i attribute that to my Renew lotion because i’m only 5 feet tall and my stomach stretched out to about 5 feet in front of me.

i met my husband “through a mututal friend in college”….aka-i met him at a bar while out with my friends. hee hee. i knew immediately that i wanted to marry him. it took me 2 months to convince him that he even wanted to date me. i made Shania Twain’s popular song, “i’m gonna get you good” my anthem. I worked out to it incessantly on my Tony Little Gazelle, screaming out the lyrics. A few weeks into my “pursuit” of him, we wound up at the same bar (this was in my short stint on the bar scene. hee hee), i had a few too many and when i “ran” into him we visted for a while and then he went off to hang out with his friends. this however, did not dawn on me that he might have been good with just a “short visit” so i proceeded to call him incessantly in the bar to find out where he was. when it got really loud (it was halloween night mind you), you could find me under the table calling him. wow. can you believe this guy actually ended up marrying me?!!!! CA-razzzzy! once he got past my Halloween GI Jane outfit and the fact that i was drunk dialing him from under the bar tables, while in the same bar as him, it was true love!

Pregnancy: I did not even know I was until I was 19 months. Don’t hate me hate my cycle. It was totally normal. When it comes to stretch marks they have been a way of life since I moved to the South where I blame Chick-fa-lay and Jack in the Box. I have gained way to much being here.

I met my husband at a campus ministry. He had long hippie hair and played guitar while I wore UFO’s and loved drum and base music. For some reason we were always together though. I guess it was because we shared a best friend. Said best friend happened to be in love with my roommate. Geoff was my friend first for the record.

I am a product snob. My mixed race crazy curly hair needs moroccan oil. I do Aveda and or purology for shampoo and conditioner and redkin for styling products. If you know anything cheeper that may work my husband will thank you!

Face is a different story. I use m/k tinted moisturizer and clinique powder. Sephora brand for everything else unless I get blessed with some MAC

My two pregnancies left my stomach and sides looking like I was scratched up by a bengal tiger. I don’t really care too much though because my stomach was never an area I loved showing off that much anyway and am perfectly fine with no one except my husband seeing it in all its chubby naked glory. My hubby and I had a love at first sight experience while doing a missionary training school in Orlando. We were both seeing other people when we met, but the minute we locked eyes it didn’t matter anymore. During the course of the 6 month school we fell in love. Also the fact that two months were spent in Egypt riding camels around the pyramids and taking boat rides on the Nile only made the experience that much more amazing. No really I am not joking! We’ll be 7 years this summer for us. Oh and Roo, so weird, I also only wear D&G light blue! I usually don’t like the scents of perfumes…that one is the only one I’ve ever smelled and owned that I truly LOVED.

My first pregnancy covered my stomach, sides, and thighs in stretch marks because I gained weight in my legs as well as my stomach. I had a 9 pound 2 ounce baby though!! My second pregnancy was right on top of the other so my stomach was still.. uhh.. saggy! No stretching needed!!!!!

I met my husband in high school at the church he went to. One of the kids in our high school was killed in a car accident that morning, and I really wanted to be with my friends, so instead of going to my church, I went with my best friend. While there I met this hunky football player/wrestler. I was 15 at the time. We have been together for almost 9 years, and married for nearly 4 of them and have two sweet girls under the age of 2!

In my hair I use whatever I have a coupon for.. Ok but I really like Pantene or Herbal Essence. Nails I only paint my toes usually.. but I am OBSESSIVE about chips, bumps, etc. in my nail polish so I will fork out the money for OPI or Essie. I don’t wear a lot of makeup but love Maybelline mascara. I have one Smashbox eyeshadow that I LOOOOVE but just can’t bring myself to buy any more since I don’t really have time to put it on.

I met my husband while I was working for him on his ranch. He is such a romantic kind of guy that he decided it would be cheaper to marry me than keep me on the payroll. Silly, disillusioned me had pictures of a June wedding in my Mother’s award winning garden. My husband……nope. We had to get married in December before year’s end so he could get the tax break. Ahhhhh…..to be so naive again! That was 30 years ago and we are still ranching together.
2 pregnancies, 2 kids. Gained 60# with #1 (boy). Could have eaten all of Wyoming if given the chance. My body morphed into one giant stretch mark. Gained grand total of 13# with #2 (girl) and lost 2# before she arrived. Ate as much as possible but couldn’t gain. The little monster took everything I ate and wouldn’t share.
Beauty products? Seriously? The livestock don’t care so it’s not a big issue.
Hair care is usually whatever I can afford at the time. That same romantic guy mentioned above calls me “Apocolypto from Borneo” because my hair is extremely thick, coarse, and wavy/curly. It bears a striking resemblance to a horse’s tail. The one thing I do swear by is Morrocan oil. It really doesn’t change the appearance any but it does give it some semblance of moisture.

So, my answers…. No stretch marks on belly with first baby (though made my old high school ones on my hips show, but got little ones on “the girls”, which promptly disappeared (with “the girls”) after BF and losing all the baby weight and then some. Now with baby #2, no new ones, but ALL the old ones are showing! BOO HISS! lol
Met hubby of 8.5 years at Church. I said to my GF “WHO is that HOTTIE?!?!?!” And she said “um…. that’s my brother!” LOL he invited me out with everyone after the service and we’ve basically been together ever since. :)
Due to health issues (FMS) I haven’t worked since 2004, and now I’m a SAHM. Best job ever!
Last but not least, products. Hair – H&S Sensitive, haven’t been able to afford the Chi flat iron I want, but found a very good replacement by conair. It was $60, but it gets HOT HOT HOT, works fast, and leaves my hair super smooth. Totally happy with it :) I never wear perfume anymore (used to LOVE Boss Woman), but sometimes vanilla body spray. My makeup is eclectic, as I’m allergic to everything. Love Loreal mascaras, Almay foundation, Maybelline mineral pressed powder, and my mineral eye shadows from Pure Fusion on etsy. Oh, and I love my OPI polish, and always have Pompeii Purple (which is totally pink) on my toes at all times. It makes me smile :)

My hubs & I actually grew up together…we went to the same church from the time we were kids (like 7 & 9 roughly). We were friends (sort of) but became closer when we were older (post HS) when we started hanging out in the same circle of friends. Our friendship grew closer & then he started getting all flirty. I even said to a friend at one point, “Why is Jeremy being weird?!?!” well, obviously my feelings ended up changing & the rest is history! :o)

I don’t know if I got any new stretch marks during my pregnancy…I got plenty during a rapid weight gain in HS because of a back injury. I didnt have any weird cravings…just the bad stuff I already liked I realllllly loved when I was pregnant (pizza, French fries, etc). Although I did fall in love with popsicles!!

I am completely low maintenance when it come to hair & makeup…maybe partially because I work from home. My favorite makeup & skin care is Artistry & NAO. But most of the time it’s just concealer & mascara and my hair is up…I’m bad about that!

My husband and I met working a retreat at a Christian Youth Camp. We had both worked there two summers, but at different times. He had roomed with my little brother for the previous summer and had heard all the kinds of stories that little brothers like to tell on their big sisters. I, on the other hand, had heard only the awesome stories about him. He introduced himself, then I introduced myself, and his eyes got really big and the smile slipped off his face and he said, “Oh, you’re THAT Tova.” I politely excused myself and avoided him for the rest of the day. 3 months later, he was transfering to my college campus and my brother sent word to be on the look out for him because he was directionally challenged and would probably need help adjusting to the new campus. I sent him a message offering to meet and show him around, which he accepted. We got together the first day of classes 2008 and spent hours talking and walking around campus. I knew then, that I was falling in love with him. Over the next month, I would drop whatever I was doing to go and “find” him when he got lost, and we became almost inseparable. He finally asked me out in September, and even called my father on the phone to ask permission to date me. In April of 2010, he proposed on stage in front of the crowd for my final choir recital, and on January 1, 2011, my father married us in my home church. I can’t believe it’s already/only been a year.
We are still waiting for the right time to start a family, but it’s something we both want ASAP. I’m definitely starting to go green with every Facebook friend to announce they are expecting. ;)I’m also quite small, so I know I’ll want to keep an eye on all the stretching and growing I’m likely to do when I finally am pregnant. How long did some of you wait after marriage to start having children?
As far as make-up and such, I’m a pretty ‘natural’ girl. My face dislikes me if I wear heavy makeup too often, so most of the time I limit it to lipgloss, and save the eyeliner, mascara bit for date nights. I let my hair dry naturally and then run a brush through it. I’ve always had straight, thin hair, so it’s fairly manageable. I just use whatever scent of Suave shampoo and conditioner appeals to me that month.

    Thanks, Ingrid.
We still have lots of traveling we would like to do. Right now it’s kinda on that fine line between travel and break the bank vs. have children and break the bank. Both sound equally awesome.

No stretch marks yet (other than those pesky puberty ones) but I have developed a lovely little rash on my boobs and under my belly. Awesome.

Also, I eat a lot of grapefruit, guzzle milk by the gallon, and would kill a man for a delicious iced tea right now. Are you having a boy? I am. ;)

My mom introduced me to David. She loves to brag that she picked him for me.

I use Redken volume products and Aquage. I have very fine, flat hair. It needs all the help it can get.
