It is a great moment when I open my mailbox and I’m greeted by a Pottery Barn catalog. A great moment, indeed. When I found out I was pregnant with my second girl, I was so excited to decorate a room for two little girls.
Enter the Pottery Barn Kids catalog. It featured these cutie items.
Penny & Joy Owl Plush. So cute! I wanted one for my girls’ bedroom. And we all know how the story goes – sticker shock. $24 for one, $29 for the other, plus taxes, plus shipping. Bah.
So, I attempted to make my own. Please note: I do not sew. I own a sewing machine, but my skills are rudimentary. I don’t even know how to mess with that bobbin thingie. I used the PBK owl as a rough guide, and stitched it all by hand.
Doesn’t it look so cute on the shelf? It matches the fabric pennant and the tote bags I made all on my own helped my mom make.
Check out my other Pottery Barn knockoffs here and here!! :D

WAHOO!!!! ca-ute :) so glad you are back at it, really missed you!!

I did, and thank you! I wanted a room that they would still like in a couple of years – my girls are 6 months old & almost 2.

Darling… I love owls and collect them. These are so cute! I think at the end of the day I would spend $30 on sewing supplies in attempt to makes something so cute. Thanks for the post!

Ooh, yeah I could see where that would happen. I had all the fabric from making the pennant, the curtain, and a couple of other things in their room. I did purchase the felt, though. I think it came out to about 14 cents a sheet. :)

Ooh hoo, I love your owl. If only I had more time to take a stab at all these wonderful inspiring crafts on the web. Some day. Thanks for stopping by Northwoods Adventures. My Lola is 3. And quite the handful these. It’s a good thing she’s so funny, that is often her salvation.

Love the name Lola. So cute. That’s actually what my girls call my mom – “Lola.” It’s not her name, but it means grandmother in her country.

I wish wish wish you would learn to use a sewing machine! You could take lessons at a shop somewhere. You are so gifted with ideas I can’t imagine all the neet-o things you could come up with if you – knew – how – to – sew.
Argh! LOL
