Giraffes on Unicorns, A Million Dollar Idea

What is up with gender neutral baby clothing?  Why is it all so meh?

Yellow duckies!  Green froggies!  Alright, I get that yellow + green are the gender neutral go-tos for parents who have decided to keep the status of their unborn baby’s genitalia a surprise.

But I don’t want to dress my newborn in pajamas with stripes and polka-dotted frogs.  No substantial reason.  Simple vanity.

Why can’t there be like… turquoise honey badger onesies?  Or footie pajamas with a giraffe riding bareback on a unicorn.

Oh, this is kind of cute.

Hood up, mini-me

I could wear matching gray sweats and then we could be all heyyyyyy, gray hoodie patrollllllll at the hospital.  No?

I saw this on Pinterest this week and started laughing hysterically.  Seriously, I wish I thought of it.

I cannot find the original site, despite my Google search engine skills.  If you find it, could you link me so I can pin this very clever creator properly?  :)

Speaking of Pinterest, I’ve gotten a couple ROO YOU WERE FOLLOWING ME AND NOW YOU’RE NOT FOLLOWING ME I HATE YOU WITH THE FIRE OF A THOUSAND SUNS.

So, I did some research.  Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.  I think if I follow *all* of your boards, then Pinterest will tell you that I’m following you.  If I only follow some, then Pinterest will somehow tell you that I’m not following you.

I unfollow specific boards that are not relevant to me.  Examples: Wedding Idea Boards, Boards with Products for Your Pets, Boards with Activities for Grade School Boys, Short Blonde Hairstyle Idea Boards, Scrapbooking Idea Boards, etc.

You get the picture.  If I find myself owning pets, ten year old boys, or suddenly having a penchant for scrapbooking, wedding planning, or hair bleaching, I WILL BE ALL UP ON YOUR BOARDS, I promise.  :)

If you’ve ever lamented not looking like a magazine spread, please watch this video.  It is fantastic.

I’ve done a little research on this before – Victoria’s Secret is one of the worst offenders.  Google it sometime.  You’ll see pictures where the leg bone is obviously not connected to the hip bone; one arm is Photoshopped slimmer than the other; shadows are all off, etc.

Thanks to Jennifer Oleson for posting it on the NiceGirlNotes Facebook page. :)

Also, let me take a moment to give big ups to some of the people and businesses who help NiceGirlNotes operate.  A-a-hem:

Two Poodle Press: really cute stationery and totally affordable.  Sissy has some really pretty vintage-inspired Valentine’s cards on sale right now, and often does giveaways on her Facebook page.  Hi, Sissy, hiiiii!  :)

Edible Arrangements is offering *early bird pricing* for Valentine’s Day.  Hint, hint, Jack.  HINT, HINT.

Mama May i is an adorable handmade shop featuring wooden toys (a hit a previous Cute Stuff Sales).  Also on Faceybooky.

Along for the Ride is offering all of her cabochon jewelry at 10% off with the code ‘cab10.’  Once they’re gone, they’re alllll gooone.  Laura’s going on a mini-vacation from February 1st to the 4th, so hit her up now if you’re looking for something ca-uute.

Hit up Quite Crafty‘s Facebook page for special deals on crocheted items (like the slouchy hat that 73% of my friends now own.  That statistic isn’t official.)

Frrresh Friday

It’s been awhile since I did a weekly wrap-up, So Fresh Friday style, so I thought I’d attempt to do it again.  If you don’t like it, please write in the comments this exact phrase: No Fresh Fridays boooo, boooooooooooo.  And if you do like it, write something else.  Like: YouTube and documentaries have forever ruined KFC for me.

Okay, first off… I absolutely love this SNL video.  Over the past few years, I’ve questioned the entertainment and humor value of SNL, and time and time again I’ve been sorely disappointed.  This video, however, is *hysterical.*

My favorite is the window washer.

Sometimes I write for websites that aren’t this one.  These two articles are seasonally appropriate, so I thought you might like them.  And me.  But mostly them.  No, wait.  Me.

I love Pinterest, but I have one small, rather insignificant critical opinion of some of the crafts I see floating around Pinterest.  There are a lot of paint sample crafts floating around.  A lot of them include a lot of paint samples.

I am assuming that the majority of families do not have boxes and boxes of paint samples in their homes, which makes me think that crafty people around the country are going to their local Home Depot or Lowe’s and shoving tons of paint samples in their handbags with no intent of actually using them to see if they should paint their hallway a shade of Soft Peach.

I find this akin to going into a local Starbucks, grabbing a fistful of napkins and using them around the dinner table that night.

Am I wrong?  I would love someone from Home Depot or Lowe’s or Benjamin Moore to tell me that I’m wrong.  But here’s my thought process:

It costs money to produce those paint samples.  Those paint samples are available with the hope and assumption that people are using them to figure out what shade of latte they’d like to paint their living room.  When people are suddenly heading to the paint store in droves and grabbing handfuls of paint samples with no intention of using them for their traditional purpose, suddenly, the paint companies have to make more.  Which is an expense.  That expense is then – I’m surmising here – covered by an increase in cost of paint + paint accoutrements.

So my whole point is (and this is just a theory)… it seems wrong to use free paint samples in this manner, unless of course, I’m recycling my paint samples after picking out my paint.  What are your thoughts on this?  Anyone want to weigh in?  :)  Tell me if I’m just being cranky.

So Fresh Friday: Do It To It

It’s been awhile since I pulled one of these out, but I figure it’s time to highlight some fun things on the internets.  Oh and maybe just ramble.  Maybe.

This video is fantastic.

I love it.  I watched an interview, and Safeco didn’t hire this kid to dance as a marketing scheme.  He just really loves dancing, and when Thriller came on, he jumped up and went in on it.  So ill.  He’s a boss.

Tomorrow is the Cute Stuff Sale, y’all!!  So excited.  I’ve rounded up my right hand CSS laydayyyy, Lindsey, and some awesome volunteers – Rosie, Kristin, Valerie, and Deb.  We’ll be posting hot deals all night long.  Okay, in reality?  From 8pm to 10pm EST.  It will be FUN as long as no one breaks Facebook (again).

If you’ve never experienced a Cute Stuff Sale before, check this post out.  It’s the aftermath wrap-up of the very first Cute Stuff Sale.  Hysterical.  Check out the list of sellers participating tomorrow.  :)

“ROO oh my gosh I just love NGN so much.  HOW CAN I PROVE MY LOVE TO YOU?”

If I had a nickel for every time someone said this to me, I’d probably have close to enough money for a pack of Big Red.  But, to answer this thought-provoking question, you can do what Jack does…

Or, at the bottom of each post, there’s a Facebook Like button.  If you click ‘like’ then it pops up on your FB page and your friends can be like… OOOH what is this alluring blog that my very cultured friend is reading??  That’s probably the easiest way to spread the NGN love, and I am.so.happy.when.you.do.  :D  <—This emoticon is most indicative of the happiness that I feel.

It’s true.

Confession: I haven’t had “television” for the majority of the past 8 years or so, which puts me slightly behind on the pop culture scene.  We recently got “television” again, mainly so we can keep up-to-date on the news and the upcoming election.  I was flipping through the channels, and my re-introduction back into television was in the form of a show called “Dance Moms.”

Sweet baby Moses.  I have seen things I cannot un-see.  I may have to stick to the cranky anchors screaming about the current administration.  And the previous administration.  And the one previous to that.

(She was all, “PULL YOUR KID OUT OF THAT COMPETITION.  It’s unfair to the rest of the kids!”  And then the other was like, “YOU’RE JUST JEALOUS BECAUSE MY KID WORKS HARD AND HAS TALENT.”  And then the third mom was like, “They both have stupid hair.”)

Wishing everyone a super fun weekend, and I’ll see you TOMORROW NIGHT!  (Be web cam ready.  I want pitchas again.)
